8 schools in remote regions have access to the Internet from “ElCat”

For two years now, the social project of ElKat has been successfully operating to connect remote regional schools to the Internet.

According to company representatives, it is implemented exclusively at the expense of the company. Educational institutions receive not only equipment for access to the global network, but also the opportunity to use the Internet for free.

Today, the telecommunications sector has a huge impact on the development of Kyrgyzstan. The company "ElKat" is constantly working on the creation and implementation of new technologies that can change society. Here they understand that communication is an integral part of the life of a modern person and a powerful tool for solving many social problems.

ElKat is convinced that business success is measured not only by the size of the client base and the value of the company. At the forefront should be “eternal” values - the education of children, the pursuit of a better life, the development of the country's economy and so on. This determines the main directions of implementation of the company's social policy.

ElKat completed a multi-year project to provide all regions of the republic with affordable and high-quality communications. One of the leading operators in the country has laid modern trunk fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL) even in the most distant regions of the country. Then the idea arose to connect schools located in the most inaccessible regions of the republic to the Internet for free.

“One of the first we connected a school in the village of Nura. In 2008, this settlement was virtually wiped out by a powerful earthquake. Nura is located at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters above sea level in the border zone. The nearest village of Sary-Tash is 80 kilometers away. There are communication problems, even cell phones do not catch the signal well. That is, living and working in Nura is not at all easy. And what about the children who remain in the information vacuum? Therefore, the company’s management decided to connect the local school to the high-speed Internet for free, ”says Sergey Shmelev, Deputy Director General of ElKat.

The company believes that access to the fast Internet will give impetus to the intellectual development of children in villages. Indeed, today there is a negative trend: the level of secondary education in the regions is falling compared to the capital. Therefore, this gap must be reduced.

“Many thanks to the company for their technical assistance. Thanks to Internet access from ElKat, 16 stationary computers are constantly involved in our school. In addition, there are wi-fi routers everywhere. 2 smart TVs are also connected to the network. That is, the children got the opportunity to prepare for the general republican testing and for different olympiads. They quickly download large files and the speed of the Internet suits us. There is mobile Internet in our village, but it is very weak. Teachers also take advantage of the worldwide network. We collect materials for the lessons. For example, we find works by Kyrgyz akyns. We have a library, but the books are already frayed and outdated. A free Internet allows you to download any books from libraries from around the world. If you need illustrations, then download the photos and print them through the printer, ”says the director of the village school, Nura Zhainagul Abdikerimova.

The village of Nura is far from the district center. Previously, in order to bring salary cards and other papers to the local school, it was necessary to spend 2,000 soms for transportation costs. Today, teachers send official documents to the district education department by e-mail. In the same way, they receive orders from the district.

ElKat is convinced that educational initiatives, including those using telecommunication technologies, contribute to the formation of future professionals who will contribute to the development of the country.

According to S. Shmelev, the company is not going to stop there. Future plans include Internet connection of kindergartens, FAPs and other social and cultural facilities.
